Whether it would have been more important than securing the WMDs, I have no idea at all. This would undoubtedly depend upon hundreds of factors, many of which could have changed over the course of seconds or minutes. When you say it it sounds ominous, but as a matter of military strategy I'm quite sure it is far more complicated. And, I don't know that it is true (although it could be and there could be excellent reasons for it).
