Judge orders Microsoft to change browser marketing practice Copyright c 1997 Nando.net Copyright c 1997 Agence France-Presse WASHINGTON (December 11, 1997 7:00 p.m. EST nando.net) - A U.S. judge on Thursday ordered software giant Microsoft to halt a practice of requiring computer makers to install its Internet browser along with the company's "Windows 95" operating system. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Jackson said his order would remain in effect until the issues surrounding an antitrust case brought by the U.S. Department of Justice against Microsoft were further reviewed. "Based on the present record ... the government appears to have a substantial likelihood of success on the merits" of their case against Microsoft, Jackson said in a brief decision in the landmark case.
