Noront Resources Ltd. Drilling Update - Urban Township Windfall Lake Base
Metal and Gold Project, Quebec

TORONTO, ONTARIO--Management of Noront Resources Ltd. (the
"Company") has been advised by its joint venture partner, Alto
Minerals Inc., that two (2) diamond drill holes have been
completed on the Company's joint ventured Windfall Lake base metal
and gold Project, Urban Township, Quebec. Alto is currently
completing an exploration program over the claim group, as part of
its agreement to earn its 50 percent interest in the project.

The first hole was drilled under a surface showing which averaged
9.0 grams per ton gold across 3.0 meters (9.9 feet) and was
drilled to a depth of 221 meters (663) feet). Sulphide
mineralization has been noted from the collar of this hole to the
bottom. Hole number 2 has been completed to a depth of 234 meters
(772.2 feet) and sulphide mineralization has also been observed
for half of its length. Hole number 3, planned to a depth of 250
meters (825 feet) is expected to be completed by late Tuesday,
December 9, 1997.

The core from each hole will be logged, sampled and sent to the
lab for assay which, it is expected, will be by Friday, December
12, 1997. Assay results are expected within two weeks and will be
reported as they are received.

ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD
