I think we're two steps from a Cuban Missile Crisis and three steps from war with Russia for the first time. I don't think Putin wants war. I think he very much hopes that Putin apologists and anti war advocates in the West will rule the day and he gets his prize. Putin is playing a game of chicken and people who play chicken very much depend on the weakness of their opponents and count on them stepping down. When their opponents don't step down, chicken players tend to back off. Is their a risk in this game of starting a war? Of course. Is it likely? I don't think so.
