"It's unethical to force taxpayers to pay for abortions which they find morally abhorrent. I totally agree with you."

That is better. But I do believe it is ethical to use democracy to voluntarily create standards and rules. That is what democracy is about. Having said that, I oppose on principle the theft of money from producers even on the pretense of the majority rules because I believe that all assistance to those in need should be done (almost) completely voluntarily. And citizenship (being mainly involuntary) does not quite fit that bill for me.

So we are in a point in time where pragmatism (we cannot educate people overnight or make them moral instantly) overrules. Therefore, it is good to protect human rights and freedoms in a corrupt society. I believe that all philosophies (in a very imperfect world) must prove their value on the ethics of pragmatism. Because principle means shit when you wake up and find TROLLS around your camp fire eating their own feces and desperately searching for yours!

Doctors are not forced to do abortions. They do it because they are sworn to fight against human suffering. The reason you help to pay for health care in this country is because our democracy decided that people who are suffering should not be denied care simply because they are indigent. This can be argued, but the fact is that even if you turn your back on a bleeding body in the street thrown from a car, others will see that she is sewn up and given medication and follow-up. Having decided that Canadians will have universal health care, it would be irrational and immoral to discriminate against those who require qualified medical services. So while you may take the position that people should pay for their own health care....you may not rationally take the position that delivery of healthcare services ought to be capricious...
