It was the protection concept I was thinking about

If countries want the US to protect them, we should get protection money

Way they paid the knights in days of old

Point being we are paying for all of this defense in the US...and we really don't need the force structure we are paying for, given our natural geographic strategic location

I suppose we do it in reaction to the history of bad actors from Europe and Asia that we have dealt with over the years

..but it is a massive undertaking borne by the taxpayers here

...and a bit galling when those who have skimped suddenly find themselves in a quandry and try and build a case for the US jumping into it.....again, because we are able..
