Houston area father kills boy he found in daughter's bedroom

This shooting happened near our local high school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klein_Oak_High_School The Bridgestone area (Bridgestone Lakes, Bridgestone West, and several other Bridgestone things) are downscale from my neighborhood, but still close enough to be in our zip code. I can tell you there's absolutely NO WAY the father will be charged with anything.

Homicide investigators are gathering evidence after a father shoots and kills a teenage boy he found in his daughter's bedroom.

A spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff's office said Deputy constables from pct 4 responded to a 911 call around 2:20 a.m. about a shooting in the Bridgestone Lake Subdivision in Northwest Harris County.

Police tell FOX 26 reporter John Donnelly that the father was notified that there was someone in his daughter's bedroom by one of his other children.

The father then went into the girl's bedroom and discovered the 17 year old male in bed with his 16 year old daughter. The daughter denied knowing who the boy was.

A confrontation between the father and boy started. The boy apparently wasn't listening to the father's commands and reached for something. It ended with 17 year old being shot and killed at the scene.

The 16 year old girl later admitted to investigators that she did know the boy and had let him into the home.

The father was taken by ambulance from the home for treatment of an unrelated medical situation.

So far no arrests have been made.

Mother of teen fatally shot in friend's bedroom: He didn't deserve to die like that KHOU 11 News Houston Videos 1:48 mins

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A Spring-area family believed a dad didn't have to kill their son after catching him inside his daughter's bedroom early Thursday morning.

"I would like my baby back, but I know that's not possible," said Zakia McCormick. "A call you know, I'm sorry. He didn't deserve to die like that"

17-year old Johran McCormick was shot inside a Spring-area home on Bridgestone Lakes subdivision off FM 2920.

Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constables were the first to respond after someone called 911 around 2:30 a.m. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the shooting.

Investigators said the father accused in the shooting woke up to find the McCormick in his 16-year-old daughter’s bedroom.

According to detectives, his 16-year-old daughter let McCormick in the house and snuck him into her bedroom.

Her younger brother went to say good night and saw two feet sticking out under the bed, detectives said. He then went to get his father.

The father walked in and asked questions, but his daughter claimed to not know McCormick. The father then called 911, but an argument ensued with the teenage boy.

The father told deputies that McCormick dropped his hands as if to grab something, so the man opened fire. The teen died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, but the father was transported to the hospital to be checked out for medical reasons as he complained that he was not feeling well.

Constables said the man appeared to be on several medications. Neighbors of the family were torn on what the father did.

"As a mom, I just can't imagine," said Letica Field. "I know the dad was trying to protect the family, but he should have let the authorities handle it."

The family recently moved to the house from a nearby neighborhood.

HCSO investigators said they will present their findings to the Harris County Grand Jury for its consideration.

SPRING, Texas -- Friends and family of Johran McCormick held a candlelight vigil Friday to remember the young life lost on Thursday morning.

His pastor spoke at the event.

“I think the whole community is at a loss and grieving and there is sadness that it will take a long time to heal,” said Pastor Ginny Brown Daniel from Plymouth United Church in Spring.

The 17-year old junior, known as Bird Man, was well liked at Klein Collins High School. [ Ah, he didn't go to our high school, but to KCHS. So he drove a good ways to get to this girls house. ]

“It’s really hard,” said classmate Gwen Anderson. “He didn’t deserve it. He was really kind hearted.”

McCormick was killed after sneaking into the bedroom of a 16-year-old he was dating and shot by her father when they were caught. She reportedly told her dad, she didn’t know him.

The father called 911 but told deputies Johran dropped his hands as if to grab something, so he opened fire.

A grand jury will decide if that dad gets charged but our legal analyst, Gerald Treece, is doubtful that will happen.

“You have what's called justifiable use of deadly force,” said Gerald Treece. “It doesn't mean it could have been avoided, it means he was justified in doing the shooting."

But for the group of friends and family who attended the vigil, it just wasn’t right.

“It’s senseless," said Johran’s mother Zakia McCormick. “It didn’t have to happen.”

Another service is being held for Johran McCormick on Sunday at the Plymouth United Church at 3 p.m. The church is located at 5927 Louetta Road.

We stopped at the home of the teenage girl. Her family wasn’t interested in talking about what happened.

A Houston-area father fatally shot a 17-year-old boy who was inside his teen daughter's bedroom early Thursday morning, MyFoxHouston.com reported.

The father, who was not identified, was notified by one of his children that there was someone in his 16-year-old daughter's room, the report said. He reportedly found his daughter in bed with the teen.

The confrontation occurred around 2:20 a.m. The father had a gun and asked the teen to identify himself, police said, according to the report. His daughter reportedly told her father that she did not know the teen and that the two were not in bed.

The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire. The teen did not have a gun. His daughter later confessed that she did indeed know the teen, the report said.

"You just feel terrible for the families," one neighbor told the station. "You just kind of reflect on both of these families’ lives have changed forever."

The father was taken by ambulance from the home for treatment of an unrelated medical situation. So far no arrests have been made, but detectives told the station that they are going to refer the case to a grand jury.

[ He'll be nobilled. ]
