My personal view is that Bush did not do particularly terribly on deficits given the difficulties he faced. He started off thinking he could cut deals with Congress like he had in Texas, and it didn't work. But it isn't surprising we had huge costs related to the wars and national security after 9/11. And it was pretty essential to throw money at Katrina.

There really is no comparison between the Bush and Obama deficits. I don't like them regardless of party, but having seen the average deficit triple as of the time Obama took office, that's a different game.
