Maybe there is one other person on the Obama thread that agrees with my position re. Putin and the Ukraine.

OK, I'll bite

Agree with your comment about liberal vs conservative terms here

Like you, I am classed as liberal cause that's how folks want to slice it

I call myself progressive, which is not the same thing as liberal, but there is substantial overlap

The difference, as I see it, is that a progressive tends to take a more strategic than a tactical view of how humanity is evolving and should evolve

Liberals, and conservatives, are apt to debate sometimes insignificant points losing sight of long term objectives

Like the Ukraine

In some there is a sense that the US should immediately assume an offensive posture

Whereas others believe that unless Putin has discovered some new technological weapon that would change the face of warfare, he will only do local dusting of internal issues

...and the fact is the Crimea has always been Russian anyway, was never going to be anything but Russian and needed to be brought under Russian political control

Putin did what he needed, and will not take another step beyond those enclaves that are separated by borders not culture

To get our undies in knots at this point is not necessary, IMO
