Paul used philosophy and whatever else served the proclamation of the Gospel. These were only openings for dialog and he then brought them to the Cross and Resurrection. To believe that you can bring people to Christ by the wisdom of words is a fundamental error. The Cross and the Resurrection quickened by the Holy Spirit is what brings people to salvation. A philosopher may reason you to the existence of the god of the philosophers but he will never never reason you to the one true God. Only the power of Jesus' Cross and Resurrection will do that.
