I think it is a shame the man has to live with the memory of killing the intruder. However, in these days of home invasions and similar crimes I am sensitive to the fear a man might have finding an intruder inside his house and in his daughter's room very late at night.

Sneaking into the girl's room, even with her assistance was a very dangerous act. I have little sympathy for people who attempt very dangerous acts that result in their physical harm or death. A place it along with rock climbing, high platform jumping, drunk driving, ingesting dangerous amounts of drugs etc etc.

I am thankful no one else was harmed. Obviously the girl has to live with a high degree of guilt in this situation and a traumatic vision that will remain with her for her entire life. She will require intensive counseling.
