Even Facebook has ads. They aren't in jeopardy of failing. I want SI to flourish. It's unlike any other forum out there for stock discussion and more.

I signed up for Seeking Alpha and they insist you have 5 stocks in your "portfolio." They also vet all posts before posting them on a thread. Same with Motley Fool. Those are both designed to meet their specific requirements and have none of the freedoms offered here.

Ads are the only revenues that are ongoing. Once you buy a member ship or get grandfathered in you provide no source of revenue for the company. My friends and fellow investors read SI daily, most of whom have no membership and are hesitant after seeing the backlash I took for telling the truth and outing the detractors.

Advertiser look for demographics and hits as well as growth in membership. Time will tell, but it looks like the changes made (many of which give old timers clean slates when it comes to "ban" or "ignore" hits from the past.

I have 6 people who have me on ignore. For what reason I can't tell you other than it was requested they do so on this thread by Bear Down. That to me is childish behavior and does nothing to deter me from posting.

Therefor, I am PRO ads. Don't see any when I'm typing this message so they are not a distraction to my posting on the site.
