When you look back to the before & aftermath of the 1925 Scopes monkey trial, what your really looking at was the same virtual war between ways of life, the industrialized urban vs country rural. A reverberation that harkened back to the most bloodiest of tragedies of the US Civil War, which was more about evolving technologies, and the control, corruption & battles over new money economies, than it was about slavery.

Its really not a luxury we have to get caught up in some Creationist's "literalcy" , when the real issues are about these new evolving mass economies based on ultra tech and the human rat race conditions that followed since the advent of that urban industrial revolution. That would be starting right at the end & fall of powerful rich & noble European hierarchical family dominions & the rise of Standard Oil & John D Rockefeller and his God~inspired monopoly, the modern world's first billionaire.
