Ukraine-Crimea Update,
US Will Self-Destruct in Near Future: Dmitry Orlov
Dmitry Orlov grew up in the Soviet Union
and he sees many parallels between the
country of his birth and the present-day
United States. To whit:
"The trajectory is defined by incompetent
militarism, whereby more and more money
goes into bigger military fiascoes around the
world and less and less on foreign policy that
can be articulated or pursued; massive levels
of corruption; the amount of money being
stolen via the US Government and its various
appropriations processes is now in the trillions
of dollars; runaway debt; the United States
now has a level of debt that is now unrepayable;
All we're waiting for is for the interest rate to go
across the magic threshold of 3% and suddenly,
the entire budget explodes - the budget of the
country - and also, other types of tendencies.
It's a systemic failure, at all levels.
On the Ukraine crisis, Orlov thinks, "The Crimea
referendum was the first legal way to find out
what the people wanted to do. [They
overwhelmingly voted to secede from Ukraine
and and to join Russia, amid Western claims of
the election's illegitimacy]."
Orlov goes on to say, "In Washington, in the
Obama Administration and in the Kerry State
Department, we have absolutely breathtaking
levels of incompetence. These people really
don't know what they're doing and are
dangerous at any speed...
"The incompetents of [the West] are leading
this world into a very dangerous place - and yet,
what are these people doing, trash-talking
Russians? What would this country do to do, to
get into Earth orbit, to visit the International
Space Station? Who would negotiate deals with
countries, like Syria and Iran *on their behalf*,
because they are so hopeless at negotiating -
all they can do is blunnder and lose face. What
would this country (the USA) do without Russia?
"And why are they upsetting Russia to a point,
where they (the Russians) will stop cooperation...
because, if you turn it around, Russia doesn't need
the United States for anything. The United States
is the most dispensible country on Earth.
"All Russia really wants with the United States is
that it keep out of world affairs and tend to itself,
which it is in dire need of doing."
