I guess it depends on what we think of as "life." We obviously have a carbon-based bias. And have a hard time thinking of consciousness as anything but what we experience ourselves.

But we are such narrow minded creatures. It is a gigantic universe out there, not to mention right here on earth, with things we now identify as life or at least animate that we had no idea about until recently. And even closely related mammals seem to have a different sort of consciousness than we humans do.

Like one of our greatest geniuses wrote,

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

The only thing for sure is that the more we explore, the more there are constant surprises.
