When I pick upsets, I have 100 different criteria, all weighted and sorted, that I print out to consider. Then I take this stack of paper into my home office, put it on one side of me with my printed out bracket on the other. I then start filling out my bracket. When done, I then take this undisturbed stack of paper, which, in case it is not obvious, I am able to absorb without reading it through a process I called "vibes" (e.g. "I am not vibing it"), and add it to the recycle pile. This way, if hard-pressed to find a reason for the upset, I can then dig out a reason that, of course, I must have been vibing when I made that pick. If the upset does not happen, then obviously the data was invalid, so not my fault. This allows me to say with 100% certainty I have never ever incorrectly vibed an upset when I had valid data that I would have read had I taken the time to do so.

So there you go. After all these years, that's my secret sauce so to speak. This is how I am able to factor in such things as epic missed free throw runs so accurately. But let's keep it just between us for now until my book deal is done.
