3/21/14 Contest update Biotechs took a tumble on Friday, possibly instigated by some senators who signed a letter kvetching about the price of drugs. Did the senators just return from a trade mission to Colorado? Nonetheless, despite the drubbing of the broader Nasdaq Biotech Index, our marvelous Contest median actually managed a small gain for the week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 31.63% YTD (vs. up 31.11% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was now up 8.76% YTD (vs. up 11.90% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 2.40% YTD (vs. up 1.65% YTD a week ago). Riding an ECYT rocket, GENE’s portfolio, up a sky high 106.11% YTD, shot into first place with a substantial lead. GUERL’s portfolio, up 73.76% YTD, fell to second place and JB118’s portfolio, up 68.99% YTD, held on to third place. At Friday's close, all 46 Contest portfolios remained in the black and a phenomenal 43 of the 46 are now beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. Portfolio adjustments: none (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.) Have a terrific first weekend of spring biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
