I think you are hung up on the "specific" nature of the information.
You are implying a goal in that information and therefore it is necessary that the process of living was intended to arrive at the specific information that we experience as the present.

The process of evolution is one of change. The change is not random though, because it is the survivors that produce the next generation. The survivors tend to be "the more fit" and so there is a trend for generations to become more complex over time. More and more information is retained, but there is no particular map as to what information is going to be retained, just whatever information helped some organism to survive and spawn the next generation.

Uncountable variations in the population of Earth could have happened, but only one set of events actually happened and that is the one that led to our present.
