<<What would cause you to look for 'cash burn'?>>
Another quarter of negative earnings will do the trick. I figure, if they spend more $$$ than they make -this quarter- like they did last quarter, well, they're burning cash.
<<This company appears to have good technology, good people, with some flabby management.>>
Flabby management? Nah... EXCELLENT management in my book. Some of the best management in the biz. Arrogant as all get out, but competent. No Dan, <imho> it's their -charter- that's flabby, not their management. They're making graphics boxes and supercomputers. Superior products no question. Unfortunately, limited market for both. No way they can -manage- high growth out of that reality.
And why they -bought- themselves into the supercomputer business in the first place is beyond me. Again, questionable charter. Nothing against Cray. <imho> SGI did just fine competing against -everybody- with their own SGI brand UNIX servers. They managed THAT very well.
<Stock Market pricing is random, as you know. Let Mr. Market screw with the numbers, and just enjoy being a part owner of a great technology company. The function of the market is to raise and transfer capital. Folks who worry about price series go to dog tracks in less heady times.>
Dan, SGI management (those guys again!) just announced the resumption of a 10 million share buyback. What dog track do you suppose they go to?
I agree with you on the transfer of capital rational, but your other points? It's just the free market system in action. RE: You, me & 4 billion other people decide what SGI shares are worth at any given moment. What's wrong with that???
