Mitch McConnell's Ad Features Duke -- Rather Than Kentucky -- Celebrating
thepostgame.com

In an already-tough re-election campaign, this was the last thing Mitch McConnell needed.

One of the Kentucky senator's recent TV spots, meant to highlight some of the Bluegrass State's most noteworthy images, showed a college basketball team celebrating the national championship. The team was wearing blue and white, so naturally it is fair to assume the squad is Kentucky in 2012. Unfortunately for the Republican incumbent, it was not.

It turns out the senator's video team goofed up and put in a clip of Duke rather than Kentucky. Yeah, that's right. Not only did the clip showcase the wrong team, of all the possible schools to appear in the ad it was Duke, which as you may remember, is reviled by Kentucky fans.

It only lasts for about a second, but the error can be seen at the 1:08 mark of the video below:

"The ad was intended to highlight Kentucky's basketball dominance and obviously the web ad vendor has become so accustomed to watching national championship celebrations in the bluegrass state that they made a mistake with one of the images," McConnell spokesman Allison Moore told the Associated Press. "Obviously we were horrified by the error and quickly changed it."

McConnell's likely Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, was quick to pounce on the mistake.

"[McConnell has] been in Washington so long," said a spokeswoman for Grimes, "that he doesn't know the difference between Duke and UK."

Even in the mud-slinging world of politics, insults don't get dirtier than that.
