That slide is not very far from here. There have been a number of slides there over the years and about 20 years ago a geologist released a report on the danger of a bad one. As it occurred in the litiginous US, I am surprised to be still waiting to hear about the lawsuits against those who clearcut the forest where the slide started and those who authorized them to do so.

As you may recall, we had a similar slide but fortunately with much smaller loss of life in eastern BC a few years ago. The government has refused to buy out most of those still in danger from another slide in the same spot, but of course they can sell their properties either so they are stuck still living there.

It can be far too exciting living in such a vertiginous and weather- and seismicly-wracked part of the world.

If I ever get killed in some event like this I would prefer they leave my body where it lies rather than expend resources and endanger searches trying to find it.

I hope you get some relief from the cold soon. We are still firmly in the grip of the Pineapple express so it is warm but very wet, good for the plants and May flowers I guess.
