Well, there's an argument that, politically, Ginsberg shouldn't leave until 2016, if then.

The argument goes, first, that it's too late before the 2014 elections. The Senate Reps would find any of a variety of ways to slow down if not stop the approval of an appointment between now and November. Once we get to November, then all bets are off if the Reps gain control of the Senate.

However, at least at the moment, the electoral gods look to swing the senate back to the Dems in 2016. If that's paired with a Clinton win for the presidency, then the odds of getting a decent replacement for Ginsberg go up. Way up.
