Would public officials still be sacrificing bulls to Jupiter in publicly supported temples? ..... Generally now we witness life & death scurillous battles in the public arena,public officials (and war camp followers & prostitutes ) very much engaged in the practice of throwing each other under moving busses. The chariots have been replaced, the effect now is still similar, et tu brumius? * One notes sacrificing animal blood was approximately equal with Hebrew to Pagan, proportionate to population, the Judaic ritual need for this probably outdid Rome's. There was a guttter 3ft wide to channel away the animal blood from the Jersusalem temple, it was a virtual slaughter house for centuries but lets not get into real gorey details. Just humans being humans, it was their way to attempt to think they could influence & control nature, appease themselves, no god or gods involved.
