I believe I pointed out years ago on this thread -- maybe a decade or more ago, that Texas was a sensible application for high-speed rail. Specifically because it could be privately funded since ridership would be adequate to generate a return on the investment. Which is what is under consideration.

If private parties wanted to build a high speed rail line from Ft. Smith to Fayetteville, fine with me.

Willie Brown called it precisely as it is:

"Start digging a hole and make it so big, there’s no alternative to coming up with the money to fill it in."

This is what these government funded rail projects are.

If government has to fund it, it is a bad idea to begin with.
