A decade or so ago Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, released a proposal that life on Earth began when space aliens released some sort of proto-life on the planet. Now I personally don't think he actually thought that was the way it started, but he used the peer review system to show that his theory was proven just as well as any other of the time.

That event embarrassed scientists and convinced them that more effort was necessary to discover the origins of life. Since then progress has been made. None of that progress has cast the least doubt on evolution, which is the study of changes after the origin.

The anthropomorphic principle is a concept that the Earth and it's environments is expected to have rare and special characteristics which makes it an excellent place for intelligent life, because only in such a place would life evolve to the point that it could wonder about those conditions. Intelligent life is a necessary prerequisite for the question.

In a similar vein, evolutionists concentrated on the changes in life forms under the principal that such changes would only take place in an environment that had life. It didn't matter to evolutionary study how that life began. It's only because evolution is pretty much settled that some focus has been diverted to origins.
