Medical Marijuana in CanadaSpecial thanks to Agriconsultant for the knowledge and expertise they provided on this subject.

Medical Marijuana in CanadaIn this infographic, Visual Capitalist collaborated with Agriconsultant, a leading consulting group on agriculture and medical marijuana.

On April 1, 2014, new legislation on medical marijuana will open up the industry for patients in Canada.

Under the “Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR)” framework, Health Canada is now allowing companies to produce and distribute marijuana to patients across the country. Many competing companies means a better product for consumer – and tight regulations by Heath Canada means that marijuana will be produced safely, consistently, and to the standard of other medicines.

The number patients that have authorization to medical marijuana in Canada is expected to increase from 41,384 today to 309,000 by 2024. Currently patients use medical marijuana to treat symptoms related to severe arthritis, spinal cord injury, AIDS/HIV infection, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord disease, cancer, and epilepsy. The market is expected to reach $1.3 billion in size by 2024.

Opens up the industry alright — key word “industry”. Marijuana should be produced in the same way as pharma – in other words owned by big corporations. This is not good news for patients as they are trying to take away the ability to grow at home!

On March 21 there was a court injunction on this which allows patients to still grow at home under the old rules.

reminds me of the pre tech bust of 2000, when even the small mining companies suddenly began to reform as tech wizards.

There will be a tough road to go before total acceptance, due to the entrenched interests of the liquor, and pharma industries and their obsequious lobbies. Not to mention the inherent racism that caused the Nation wide ban in the first place … started in Texas to get rid of the mexican immigrants (normal users who couldn’t afford liquor, and it’s natural and easily grown) when jobs were at an all time low … Ironically, three US presidents, Eisenhower, Hoover, and Truman, deported millions of illegal immigrants to open up jobs in the US for returning vets of the WW I, II, and Korean Conflict … but our current Obombya and his band of merry pranksters want the future dependent votes and tax dollars of the current Illegal/undocumented immigrants, instead of employed current US citizens … go figure!!
