Energy Weekly: US Net Oil Imports Drop 1.9-m b/d Y/Y In Jan —
More Giants Steps Towards US Energy Independence As US Crude
Imports From Africa Are Almost Over
1 April 2014 ¦ 14 pages ir.citi.com

The monthly US data for January showed the biggest y/y drop in US net oil
imports to date. January typically sees a m/m bounce as refiners restock after
running down inventories into year-end; the last 3 years have seen a January
m/m bounce of almost 1 m-b/d on average. This year the m/m bounce was just
0.2 m-b/d, leaving the y/y drop at an impressive 1.9 m-b/d. Crude imports from
Africa fell to just 171 k-b/d in January, down from over 2 m-b/d in 2010.
