DALLAS, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- STELAX Industries, Ltd. (OTC Bulletin Board: STAX) announced today it has been notified by The State of Maine Department of Transportation that Stelax's NUOVINOX reinforcing bar "rebar" has been selected to be used in constructing the Fort Kent bridge. Construction is scheduled for the fall of 1998. NUOVINOX is a carbon steel that is cladded with stainless steel and is priced substantially lower than solid stainless steel.
Mr. Harmon Hardy, Chairman and CEO of Stelax Industries, Ltd., stated the acceptance by the State of Maine, along with the previously announced State of Virginia agreement, are very positive endorsements of Stelax's NUOVINOX rebar. Mr. Hardy said, "The non-corrosive aspects of NUOVINOX make it a very a cost effective method of extending the life span of our nation's bridges."
The total tonnage requirement will be determined after design completion. Deliveries are anticipated in mid-year 1998.
