Basically all that was talked about was stuff that is already known to CIEN followers. Pretty basic stuff.

The only notable thing worth mentioning was the question about how asia is affecting the business. The CEO said that for the time being Asia or (Japan) doesn't make up a large portion of the business so it won't have "any material effect". He did say that long-term Asian markets will be a key to the companies growth.

When asked about competition from companies like Lucent and Nortel he didn't have much to say. He took a pause for a second like he didn't have a good answer and then basically said something to the effect of CIEN has the technological lead and just needs to focus on what the customers want and CIEN will outmaneuver the big guys. (These weren't his exact words. He didn't come out and say that that CIEN was better, I just got the impression that he thinks that whoever has the best technology will win out.)

One other notable thing to mention was the CEO looked kind of nervous being interviewed on TV. He didn't look like one of these slick talking CEO's who make a lot of public appearances. I'm not saying this is bad, it seemed like he was pretty upfront and wasn't in "hype" mode.
