I played with the sensor fusion application from Freescale. I noticed that I could interfere with the orientation by placing some headphones near the mobile phone. The magnets in the headphones affected the output from the phone's magnetometer and changed the estimate of the orientation, even though the phone was resting flat. This could be a serious issue when navigating. The discussion starts about the 1:25 mark.
