>> That's pathetic.......I've told you, if the doc thought the patient required admittance to save his life, the decision was a no brainer for people with a brain.....and Medicare makes it clear that they are not going to nitpick over decisions like that.....

I don't know enough about medicine to know one way or the other but I can imagine that a physician judged that outpatient dialysis would be adequate.

>> Did she need ER care or just heat...... Did you have heat????

No, we were out and there were no hotel rooms available. The entire city was out. It wouldn't have saved her life. But it pretty terrible after what she'd been through to have her spend those hours in the ER rather than in a hospital bed with appropriate medications.

>> WTF do they do in Arkansas for people they believe are dying? Put them out in the parking lot? Your mother was slipping in and out of consciousness and they wouldn't do anything for her???? That is fucking unbelievable....

The ER doc put the XRay on the lightbox and said, "Her lungs are a mess. I can't help her." I said, "She has no heat." He said, "That isn't a factor. If you can get some other doctor to admit her, fine, but I can't do it." Unfortunately, it took the better part of a day to get in touch with another doctor because doctors' offices were closed due to the storm and phone lines were down. Once admitted, she was treated as any normal patient would have been, with great care and dignity. But those hours in the ER arguing over her admission left me with a bitter taste.
