Your history is a bit mixed up. During the 1900's you had liberal Democrats and "Dixiecrats", "CONSERVATIVE Democrats.

They were all bound by the dem party being the party of labor. Republican party being the part of business. Like today. But as different as night and day.

After the 1964 civil rights act the Dixiecrats changed to becoming Independents and then Republicans.

The HP Lovecraft quote stands on its own.

Ironically, you picked a bad subject to condemn Lovecraft on. You see he started out life as a conservative racist and as he became educated and saw what they did in the 20's he changed to a liberal socialist supportive of FDR.

LIke you should do! Read the entire article for some enlightenment.

"However, like many other intellectual Americans, the onset of the Great Depression impacted Lovecraft's politics immensely. By the mid 1930s, HPL was highly supportive of Roosevelt and considered himself a New Deal Democrat. Moreover, Lovecraft exhibited rather feisty dismissal of the party he formerly aligned himself with, as shown in the letter 1936 letter to C.L. Moore the blogger linked above selected:"

Lovecraft was a man of conscience who developed his mind.

<<Hi koan; Okay for the purpose of discussing the Lovecraft quote on the Republicans, I'll stipulate that the liberal Republican party ended in 1900. And that the Democrats then became the liberal party (even with all their Klu Klux Klan members, etc.)

So do you still support Lovecraft as a great example of a Democrat? Despite his vehement racism?
