I think that one of the LARGEST impediments to long-term fiscal viability of Medicare is the shackles that Congress has deliberately put on the organization specifically to prevent it from ever implementing commonsense methods of fraud prevention.

Frausters (in or associated with the medical industry) have been sucking Trillions from the federal teat for decade after decade.

At *least* every single year since mid-way through the Reagan administration Medicare's accountants and the ombudsman have SPECIFICALLY pointed out hundreds of Billions of fraud each and every year in their annual report... yet the Congress (bought and well-paid for by well-heeled vested interests who lap at this federal fountain of money) has actively stymied every single effort to stamp out this corporate and individual fraud that has ever been offered.....
