| I agree that the single parent family is itself a symptom of larger problems facing our society--values, etc. It is risky to talk about publicly because I might become CEO of a major tech firm some day, and be hounded out of the position because of a public forum posting. (OK, ; * ), not so much ). I was having a discussion with friends about a Nietsche post here, and Absolute Truth, postmodernism, etc. They say there is no way to know, so therefore.....not sure what. So many rabbit trails in those discussions.... I rolled down my window at a corner to talk to an older (happened to be black) man 'flying a sign' at an intersection asking for 'anything.' I asked him how he was doing. "Well, I'm 67 and I have a 28 month old. I'd say I'm doing fine. Still got that swing." Are broad cultural values represented in that statement? I think he is representative. Is the guy a one-off? (I doubt it.) At this point the left has won the cultural conversation by branding dissenting voices as judgemental, intolerant, racist, prudish, selfish, haters, etc. I don't know what might turn this ship around. As my friend answers me, sarcastically, "The liberals just won't leave rights alone, will they? Slaves rights, women's rights, abortion rights, workers rights, pay rights, now gay and gay marriage rights....It just goes on and on, doesn't it??. When will they leave us alone to our pursuit of liberty and happiness?" Well, I've got to get ready and move on (pun intended), before I can make this coherent. But that in itself may represent the sad state of affairs (also pun intended). |
