Interesting stuff, but I am trending in a different direction, Nigel. I don't think I could deal with response and battery life you are experiencing.

I just got a Sony RX10 as a step toward "down weighting" my equipment, particularly for travel. I won't be able to use it for wildlife, but I am hoping it will be more than adequate for people, scenery and general subjects. I used my RX100 for about 60% of the images I made during trips to Ethiopia and West Africa, but needed more reach to complement it.

By contrast I've seldom used my vaunted Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 Art lens on my 7D since getting it last summer. It is now for sale along with some others. I'm keeping the 7D and several lenses for sports and wildlife.
