OT > which retailers are catching up

Walmart, Costco, HomeDepot have all beat Amazon to orders from me last year.

Amazon locker is a desperate attempt to meet Walmart"s pick up at store service that I've used several times.

What does Amazon have that the above three don't have? - web infrastructure. Not THAT hard to duplicate, particularly on new items. Amazon's search is hideous now. It really sucks. Most of my searches return hundreds of hits that have absolutely nothing to do with what I'm looking for.

What do the above three have that Amazon doesn't have? - the ability to ship large items in the same trucks that do regular delivery, for a lot less than Amazon ships. Amazon would have to start building super stores.

Ebay, of course, has been absurdly mismanaged for years. That doesn't mean they'll always be mismanaged. Ebay could easily expand half.com.

There is a good chance other retailers will catch Amazon, just when Amazon starts making profits.
