isopatch, a radius that results in smooth, manageable doglegs is easily attainable at a rate of 5 degrees per 30m (100 feet).
These days, medium radius wells can achieve 20 degrees per 30m and short radius wells can achieve an unbelievable 90 degrees per 30m. Good luck getting production casing/liner around that bend though! I think that is more designed for competent formations and open hole completions.

"Making that 45 degree curve happen with 2,500' - or less - to work with is much more difficult. That's why I put up this post... "

Pssst, it is a 90 degree curve, unless you are using a slant rig.

Also, you don't have to do the build section in a vertical plane. You could loop the build section out sideways and still achieve a gentle radius, getting to horizontal as shallow as you heart desires. Need to think in 3D for that one.

Cheers,
S&P
