I figured I'd share a quick run in with a NCR contract installer. OK, I have to admit, the place where I work uses Cisco. Although, being a BAY long, I wish this wasn't the case, but it's out of my area. During the planning stage a while back, when I heard Cisco being brought up, I mentioned Bay and they looked at me strange and said what? I shut up being out of my league to argue suitabilties.

Anyway, this guy comes in today to install a new router and being the nosey kind'a guy I am, I walk myself down there and planted myself to start the third degree routine. First off, this guy's beeper is going off every two seconds and he's running around like his head's cut off. Every page he returns is someone wondering where he is and when he'll be wherever. He keeps telling people to keep their hats on, he'll be there asap.

So seeing his schedule is pretty full and knowing he rescheduled us twice already, I sat and waited for a good time to down to shoot off some questions.

Q=Sooo, looks like Cisco's keeping you pretty busy?

A=Yes, indeed!

Q=I heard that this is typically the slow season, no?

A=That's news to me. For the last month or two I've been going absolutely nuts and we're barely able to keep up.

Q=This just for Cisco? Do you handle Bay at all?

A= Yeah, we do Bay too, but they're a big pain in the ass to configure. I'm glad we don't do too much of them. Cisco's great. I'm in and out in no time, unlike Bay that always turns out to be an all day affair.

Q=Soooo, you're doing ALOT more of Cisco?

A=Oh yeah. They're the only way to go. They're seemless... (Goes on about how great Cisco is)

Q=I thought Bay was making a lot of noise lately and really catching some eyes with their new and innovative stuff?

A=Yeah, they have been, but they're not really there yet. I mean, you want to take a risk on the latest greatest sparkle. Everyone has the latest and greatest. No one wants to be the guinnea pig though. I can't see it yet. They're stuff isn't seemless. It's good stuff, maybe just as good as Cisco once up and running, but that's the problem it takes 10 times as long to get things up with Bay.

Please remember that I am posting this NOT to subject myself to everyone's flame thrower, but merely to pass on an industry installers perspective who handles both products. Obviously, I do not have the knowledge to go toe to toe to counter any of these points, but I was disappointed in what I heard. I will console myself by guessing that many of these guys might tend to be very opinionated and subjective and I will assume that there's our share of pro-Bay installers out there too.

All FYI--
