Rod, I think you must be refering to DVD here: "Unlike magnetic surfaces", "in excess of 10 GB", "close to commercial release".

DVD, whenever it gets here, will be a replacement for the CD, not the floppy drive. DVD is being delayed due to political considerations, just like HDTV has been. Recordable DVD is several years beyond *that*, and re-recordable DVD is still a gleam in some engineers eye.

So, don't hold your breath.
