Retail Sells 1 Million PlayStations in November

More than 1 million PlayStations were sold at retail in North America last month, Sony Computer Entertainment America officials announced this week.
According to the company, unit sales hit a 28-day record, with more than 1.01 million systems sold. The numbers come from retail outlet reports compiled from Nov. 2 to Nov. 29, 1997. Sales of game titles also soared during that period, with more than 5.14 million first- and third-party games sold. That is an attach rate of approximately five games for every PlayStation system sold, Sony reported.
Sony's first-party title Final Fantasy VII has also been a hot seller, the company said. The game, developed by Square Soft, has sold more than 1 million copies in North America since it went on sale in early September. Sony has an exclusive publishing deal with Square Soft, so the title will not be available for other platforms, such as the Nintendo 64 or Sega Saturn. Square Soft is currently working on two additional titles, Final Fantasy Tactics and SaGa Frontier, expected to ship sometime next year. o~~~ O |
