I believe it's a combination of both... some people really don't have the time or inclination to know what's really going on... then there are those who have always voted republican because all their friends and family says it's the way to go... it's like being in a cult or a club... it's peer pressure... and yes, a lot of it is purely out of spite and hatred of minorities, gays, etc... and then there is the fact that church-goers, especially in the south, all predominately vote republican... it's a cult... then throw in all the daily lies by Limbaugh, Fox News, etc and the propaganda machine by billionaires such as the Koch roaches
