What kids 2.5 years can't learn.

Not at all. They learn, but the kids who don't go to preschool learn some to. More to the point both of them learn a lot after preschool and the net results are similar for both groups. Those that go to preschool get a bit of a "head start", but they don't keep their lead, it all works out about the same in the end (on the average, not for each and every individual).

At least that is what the best available science says about the issue.
