Actually that isn't my thesis but I admit it is a difficult call. What I said was men do that to themselves.

It is a hard call because I see boys and men who lack enough control in their lives to make any concerted advocacy for their own masculinity. A strong positive male influence is absent in the lives of many boys, so boys are more likely to form their identities based on a strong female role models who often have a negative perspective on men. In addition, you won't find studies or disciplines in society which endorse the positive aspects of male masculinity (except under the purview of women's studies or feminist institutions, which is more than a little suspect). Masculinity is being redefined and co opted by groups that have historically viewed manhood as loathsome. In the process roles and behaviors historically viewed as normal boy behavior is viewed as unacceptable and boys acting more feminine is encouraged. The end result is people like you who are old white guys unable to view that identity in a positive light (emasculated: identity conflict and loss of personal power), or females who are unable to have a complimentary relationship with a male and end up trying to over compensate by developing a grotesquely aggressive attitude in the world.
