There is no doubt one can learn a lot from a structured class. But this claim seems rather dubious to me.

allowing you to easily navigate through any of the major Linux distributions.
Of course that depends on what one means by navigate. Linux is built on layers and layers. There are major differences in the execution of the abstraction layers and where the interfaces are defined between the layers. Even in the same distro like ubuntu or fedora. rpm is a totally different execution of software management than apt-get. Then there are the window managers that are the primary visual abstraction the user sees. Each has it's own gui for software management. The gui may use simple text files or be layers of xml that write xml that writes text files. finding the text files is a different easter egg hunt in all distros.

Why is knowing that useful. Well if one selects a drop down menu application and nothing happens, well why nothing. Does the menu execute a file that exists or is some config to that app buggered or ..... a bad lib? or ??

and the gui are written by folks who may or may not speak logical association. They speak greek or chinese or .....

The differences go on and on. And that is not just in different distros but even in the same distro.

If one wants to understand the Game Of Thrones, it's simple everyone dies. In linux it's simple, if it is not broken it will be fixed.
