I should also note that I'm lazy on the syncing as well, so I use PlayerExtreme to play movies on the iPhone & iPad.

I didn't know about PlayerExtreme, thanks for the heads up, I'll have to look into using that.

I honestly never noticed any sound issues, but I'm not sure I would notice anyway.

The gist of that issue is that if you encode in Handbrake for 5.1 or higher surround sound (or both stereo and surround sound in the same file), in order to get the best sound depending on the device, it makes the file sizes quite a bit larger. Not a problem if you have a lot of drive space and only stream to your iDevices, but it is if you actually load the movies onto them.

That's my understanding anyway.
