On wired ethernet you should be getting 1000 mbps, assuming your router and cables are up to it. That's better than N Wi-fi. Many routers go up to 100 BT only. Also, you'll need the cables to be at least Cat-5e, though Cat-6 is better. Cat-3 will slow you down. It's usually printed along the length of the cable.
