Actually, the cost of CPU for Intel is somewhere around $60 to $70, and I guess the similar CPU from AMD and CYRX sold to CPQ for the sub $1000 pcs can be much lower than $100
quoted . If you add up the $65 for software, the cost is somewhere between $450 to $500 for sub $1000 PCs !!!! You will see CPQ dropped the price of sub $1000 pcs to be somewhere
around $700 pretty soon if they modifying its distribution system right !!!!!!!! The price of case $50 is also retail price, it is also to high. The price of power supply $50 is also too high
if you bought by thousands !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you can do your calculation. If you want to know the real price for big OEMs, like CPQ, you need to take a plan to Taiwan. Pls do not do your calculation based on the retail price here in the USA. You can buy a powersupply for $50 with retail, of course for OEM like CPQ the price is much cheaper.
