The point I'm making Koan, is that the political wars are a market place of ideas that are voted on. This philosophy of aid ot the poor will probably appear in some form down the road in the form of a party plank, legislative proposal etc.

Democrats need to be ready to have effective arguments against it. How can they do that if they don't know what is coming down the pike? It's all there in the WSj --mostly on a daily basis.

Whatever you, or people on the left, think of Riley personally you have to admit he has some street "creeds" and has fought the good fight--maybe not in the manner you would choose to do it. But I admire his pragmatic approach--he goes with what works accorrding to his experience.

And I have to ask "What is wrong with that approach?" Not one person here, to my knowledge, has picked up on my proposal to study the success rate of kids raised in single parent welfare homes.

This is something we need to know is it not? If we are not raising people who can support themselves when they are adults then we have to change the program in some form. It's not enough to reflexively get into a defensive crouch and dismiss all the criticism of what is as "bull shit". How is that going to win independents to support benefits?
