Van Sun says Kim Hart excited again Sungold Gaming International Ltd SUM Shares issued 15,806,820 Fri 12 Dec 97 In the News The Vancouver Sun reports in its Friday edition that promoters of a huge racetrack and gaming operation in Richmond are lobbying the BC government to use a little-known section of the Agricultural Land Reserve Act to get their proposed site released for development. Environment reporter Larry Pynn says the section allows cabinet to overrule the land commission and allow the release of land from the reserves in cases where the "provincial interest" outweighs agricultural values. Kim Hart, v-p of corporate affairs for Sungold Gaming International, claims that Sungold officials are negotiating behind the scenes with senior cabinet ministers and officials to come up with a solution. If the controversial Vancouver Stock Exchange-listed company gets approval to develop the historic 92-hectare Gilmore farm at No. 8 Road and Westminster Highway, it will be the first time the section has been used to overrule the commission.
