Luck? That's absurd. And as Psylent said, the iPhone is what matters. If it continues to grow earnings, the bears have no case. "Luck" was not a good choice of wording, as clearly they are responsible for what happens with sales. What I meant is that they can breathe easy that they didn't miss on profits, which could have caused the stock to plummet. It might resume trading up 5-10%, but modest iPhone growth, in my opinion, isn't enough to justify sustaining that unless the remainder of the year becomes tangible instead of big promises and assumptions. Remember - today's numbers don't change that nothing substantially new has come from the company for a long time. Stock splits, share buybacks, dividends, and colors might excite people, but don't ultimately amount to greater value.
The iPad #s by themselves are very negative news, as they could be forecasting what will happen in the iPhone segment: high prices + limited innovation + intense competition leading to a stall. |
